On Line Coupons

People have asked where to get coupons. Of course there is the Sunday paper. You may want to buy more than one issues. Also there is a magazine called "All You." You can find this magizine at Walmart for about $1.80. There are some good coupons. You can also get some internet coupons from the web sites listed below. Just make sure your printer is ready to print, because once the site prints the coupons, you may not be able to reprint it. Also, make sure that you have good ink, because stores may not take an internet coupon if they can't clearly read it. Some stores have different policies on internet coupons, so do your homework.

CVS Game

Today I hit up HT for my last trip of triple coupons. Yesterday, Harris Teeter was OUT of everyhing. This is not usually the case for HT. This tell me that more people are really watching every penny during these hard times. I called my local HT to ask when the next truck would come in, which was mid afternoon today (Saturday.) I waited until 5 p.m. to make my trip to find that they did have most of everything I wanted. I did miss out on a few things, however I got a BUNCH of rain checks. I also ran over to Walgreens to make another back to school run. They were out of my highlighters for .39 cents, however I was able to get a rain check! Keep this in mind if there is an item you can't find. This was a store coupon sale, so it was nice to see that I could still get a rain check. I also picked up some more white poster boards for .10 each. My older two children have a bad habit about letting me know they need poster board for a project due the next day at 9p.m.! We should have a good stock...for a while.

Sunday begins a new week of CVS ads. This is a great way to get some deals and save some money. I found this "how to..." on another blog, so I am going to share it with everyone. It explains how to play the CVS game. Thanks to "mommysnacks.blogspot.com" for the information!

CVS is a store I hit just about every week to get some good (mostly free) deals. I hear people tell me that "It's so confusing" or, the most familiar line, "I just don't have time." So, I want to debunkify those comments and help you "play" cvs by just a few things to remember. So, here are my Top 5 Tips to Playing CVS.
Click here for more on this Snack...

CVS has a CVS Card you use each time you shop there. If you don't have a CVS card, just request one at your first shopping trip or go to CVS' website and request a card. Be sure to register you card online so you will get access to money-saving coupons (more on that in a second).

CVS has monthly (there is a book at the register with the monthly deals) and weekly items you purchase to earn CVS coupons which are called ECB's (extra care bucks). The ECB's print at the bottom of your receipt as soon as you make the purchase that earns the ECB's. ECB's work just like a coupon works the only caveat is that you must purchase an item for each ECB you choose to use. You can also use real manufacturer's (MFG) coupons with ECB's to reduce you out-of-pocket (OOP) expense. Remember, they expire just like MFG coupons so use 'em or lose 'em!

4/9/08: One thing to add to this - You don't have to purchase all of the ECB items in one transaction! Just purchase the ECB items within that weekly sale (or monthly ECB book) in order to get the ECB to print.

For example, I just did the $10 ECB when you buy $25 baby products. Well, in order to get the maximum savings, I did three separate transactions. On my third (and final) transaction, I had fulfilled the required $25 purchase amount and my $10 ECB printed.

CVS has money-saving coupons (or CVS $ off $$ Coupons) they email customers (see #1 - Register That Card) that you can also use to further reduce your OOP in addition to using your ECB's and MFG coupons. These also have expiration dates.

In order to maximize your savings (and to avoid annoying beeps at the register), use your coupons in this order - I call it the CVS Coupon Submission Order:
CVS $ off $$ Coupons, MFG coupons, ECB's

NOTE: If you know your total before you go to CVS, you can use this order:
CVS $ off $$ coupons, ECB's, MFG coupons

This order helps to pay for some of the sales tax - but even with my high analytical style, I haven't minded to pay pennies for getting $50 worth of stuff!

Try to Roll your ECB's - this simply means buy an item that earns ECB's and pay for it using ECB's. That way, you will use your ECB before it expires on something that is going to be giving you another ECB. I try to do this, but I won't buy ECB qualifying items if I don't need them - one can only have so many tubes of toothpaste and bottles of shampoo!

I certainly don't encourage purchasing stuff that you don't need because it earns you ECB's. I want us to be good stewards of our money! So, if you just gotta have the stuff that earns ECB's and don't need it - donate it or give it to a new couponer trying to build a stockpile - you can feel good about buying it and sharing it!

Are you a CVS'er? Do you have other tips to share? Please leave them and share!

Edit 2/8/08: One more thing I want to add (thanks to Amber's suggestion) is that you can make several transactions in order to roll your ECB's instantly and lessen your OOP.

For example, if you are just starting and know that you will be buying stuff that earn ECB's, make one transaction with those items and pay with cash. Get your ECB's and turn around and make another transaction paying for your other items (that will hopefully earn your more ECB's). Make a third if you want too. I personally have never had a store get upset about this, but just be aware of how many people are waiting in line so you're not holding everyone else up.

Edit 2/28/08: One other thing I thought I would mention - CVS sales are generally the same in all regions. There are a few differences, but overall they are the same for Georgia or Ohio. When you read the CVS Snacks each week, be sure to double check your ad.

Walmart

Thanks to help from another Co-worker (Thanks B.R!), some ladies at work want to get in on deals! One asked me about Walmart, so I am sharing some information w/ their sales paired with coupons. The main key to being successful and any store is to keep up with all of your coupons. Know that you MUST get the Sunday paper, in fact, you should buy more than one. I've heard that you can get the local Sunday paper ($1.50) at Dollar Tree for $1.00 and on Monday's at Walgreens for half the price. You've got to clip everything because you never know when you will find the product that could be free or create an overage (money towards another item because the value of your coupon is more than the price of your item.)

Again, I can not take creadit for the following information. This is from Moneysavingmom. Again, a GREAT site! Happy shopping S.S!!

One of the many reason's I love Harris Teeter is that every so often (about every 6 weeks) they TRIPLE you coupons! They do this up to .99 cents (however, not sure that I've ever seen a coupon for .99 cents.) Hope you have your coupons ready to roll. In case you don't, I hope that this will inspire you to get to clippin'!!

Deals for Today

It's Monday, so not really a big shopping day. However, I did pick up a few items from the store. I stopped by Walgreens again to stock up on the back to school deals, however they were out of everything but the pencils! I'll try again before the sales send this Saturday.

Harris Teeter:
Spray-N-Wash is buy one/get one free (aka: bogo.) (This may be a "in" store sale. I was at Adams Farm.) The normal price is $2.99, so when you split this in half, the cost per item is $1.50. There are coupons on the net that you can print for .75 off (double = $1.50.) This is a great deal because your item will be FREE! However, if you do not find the coupon on the net, there was one in last Sunday's paper for .50 off. Still not a bad deal, your item will only be .50 cents after the coupon is doubled. Try WWW.Homesolutionsnew.com for the .75 coupon.

Food Lion:
I had to stop for cheese, as it is on sale this week. My six year old lives on cheese! The FL brand is $2.00 per bag. There is a .50 cents coupon on the Food Lion web site. (Down side is that FL does NOT double coupons!) Still not a bad deal, $1.50 for a bag of cheese.
Also on the FL web site was a $2.00 coupon off of $5.00 of produce. This allowed me to pick up a full size watermelen $3.99 and a few plums for a total price of $3.00's.
If you sign up on their web site, there will be a link for coupons. Make sure your printer is ready to go because once it prints, you can't redo it. I also signed up for their shoppers program via email. I think this placed my name on a mailing list because I got some store coupons in my mail box. This included a .50 coupon for hand soap (FL brand), which is on sale this week for .99 cents. My total for the product was $.49 cents. WWW.Foodlion.com

Hope this helps to save you some time and money!

July 20th - Savings

Wow, just one packet of coupons in the Sunday paper! This really let me down because I really wanted to see what I could save. I really found some great deals last week (one shopping trip at CVS was a grand total of .18 cents!)
I did run to Harris Teeter to pick up some boxes of Pillsbury Toaster Strudels. They are on sale buy 1/get 2 free. They are priced at $2.89 per box. If you buy just one box with this sale, you will pay .95 cents (per box.) I had two/$1 coupons, when you buy two boxes. Since it is summer and I seem to be the kool-aide mom (my children's friends are always over at my home) I went ahead and picked up 6 boxes. I also had a coupon for the Arm & Hammer Detergent. It is on sale buy1/1 free. The total price was $5.79 per item (buy 1/get 1 = $2.89 per item.) I only had one coupon (1.00 off. ) This made the total price $1.89. I also got a bunch of bananas for $1.00. They were single bananas, still very ripe. Harris Teeter (Adam Farm Store) usually has a very high quality of produce, even when on clearance. I also wanted some Steak-umms (buy1/1 free), but they were out - got a rain check.

Today's Trip: 6 boxes of Toaster Strudels (buy1/2 free) $2.89x2=$5.78 - $2.00 (2/$1 coupons
when you buy 2 boxes) = 3.78 for all 6 boxes
1 bag of bananas (10 ct) = $1.00
1 50FL oz of Arm & Hammer concentrated detergent = $2.89-$1.00 ($1 off
coupon) = $1.89
Tax = .33 cents TOTAL $6.92

Walgreens: Walgreens is having an okay sale on school supplies. I decided this year to stock up for the whole school year! I used the store coupons, however was upset that I forgot my Dixie plate coupons at home and forgot that I have $1.00 Bic school supplies coupon when you buy two items. I bought five white poster boards for .10 each, two 28ct Dixie paper plates (I should have received a $2.00 coupon after the purchase but the coupon printer was down) buy1/1 free $3.79, three full size highlighters .05, five pocket folders .05, three 5 packs of Paper Mate mechanical pencils .05 each, two packs of Bic Bright Liner Highlighters - 5 pack .39 each
Tax = .40 cents. TOTAL $7.02

Again, I found these items from the ads in the paper. However, a realy great site for more information is "moneysavingmom.com" I love this site!

Extreme Couponing

Hello Everyone!

I have sat at my computer for over an hour, learning how to set up this blog. I wanted to learn how to set everything up, with out the help of my teenage children (I am sure they could have done this w/in 30 mins or so!) Why am I here? I have been told that I have a gift of finding good deals! I have always loved to shop, however my cash flow does not allow me to spend foolishly. People always tell me that I should share the information that I come across and the bargains that I find. So HERE I AM! I thought I was good at the coupon game until I read some other blogs like Money Saving Mom. These women are PROS! They do most of the work, I just get to follow the road map. However, I haven't been able to find a local site that list findings in my area. I hope to share what I find and welcome what you have found. I love to shop at Harris Teeter (double coupons), CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid. I make a point to NEVER pay full price for anything if I can get away with it! So, tonight starts this journey of the blog!
